History of Umrah
Word Umrah is deriverd form I’timaar that means visit but in Islamic term it means minor pilgrimage or visiting Bai-tul-Haram. Umrah should be done once in life or if a person have well enough money to spend on umrah then he or she should perform this as many as they can. Muslims from all over the world come to perform umrah in order to worship ALLAH."---accomplish Hajj and Umrah to please Allah". (Al-Baqrah, 196)
Every year thousands of pilgrims perform tawaaf (circumambulation) of Kaaba and walking between safa and marwa . Our Prophet (peace be upon him) performed umrah more than one time and we are following him as he taught us to perform. Hajj only perform in month of zilhaj but in case of umrah it can be perform through out the year. Performing umrah in Ramadan is considered as equal to hajj. Umrah is not imperative like hajj but it is sunnat-e-moaqqida.
There are many rituals of umrah in which some basic are discussing here, Pilgrims wear ihram at Meeqat to start performing the steps of umrah and then they move towards Haram for tawaaf after doing Tawaaf pilgrims perform Salat (namaz) behind Muqaame-Ibrahim. After namaz pilgrims moves for doing Sai i.e. that is done by running in between the mountains of safa and marwaa, next stage is to do Halq, halq is about shaving the head as ALLAH tells us.
Performing umrah helps pilgrim to remove their minor and major sins. Pilgrims are gifted with the great honour because their journey and acts are totally for the sake of ALLAH. Umrah is not just ibadat but it’s a connection of pilgrim with ALLAH, pure sole and clean intentions are required for this.Umrah is based on very simple steps that include too many physical movements, mental activity and lot of walking. Cleanliness is the basic root for performing any act of Islam, for umrah it is also recommended to be proper clean and cut nails. Umrah has 2 types i.e. Umrah that is done independently of hajj called al-Umrat al mufradah, and umrah that is performed in conjunction with hajj called Umrat al-tammatu.
