NAMAZ OR SALAH, WAY TO WORSHIP ALLAH

Muslims testify with faith that there is no one worthy of worship except ALLAH alone and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is messenger of ALLAH. Muslim’s fast (roza), they give in zakaat (charity), and they perform Hajj (pilgrimage) once in a lifetime, those who can afford the sacred journey. Muslims also perform namaz five times a day.

ALLAH is accessible at anytime and at any place. Muslims call on ALLAH frequently throughout the whole day and night. Muslims raise their hands for dua (supplication) and ask for mercy, help, and forgiveness from ALLAH. This is not the act that Muslims refer to prayer but this is called making dua (supplications), it’s about calling ALLAH, asking for His help. For Muslims namaz denotes as a set of ritual acts and words said during fixed times in a day and night. ALLAH says in Holy Quran in verse 4:103

And when you have completed the prayer, remember Allah standing, sitting, or [lying] on your sides. But when you become secure, re-establish [regular] prayer. Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times.

Muslims pray Fajr in the early morning before dawn, zohar in the middle of the day, Asar in the evening, Maghrib at sunset and Isha at night. Muslims performs all the namaz in obedience to ALLAH because ALLAH has created humankind, universe each and everything. ALLAH says in Holy Quran, verse 51:56;

And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.

For a believer of Islam, worship is a way of spending life. Performing namaz at fixed and specific times serves as a reminder that why we are here and it also helps to direct thoughts and actions of a person away from sin, evil acts and thinking, namaz put a person onto remembrance of ALLAH.

Namaz is just a single act among many acts of worship but it holds a very important and special status in Islam. It was not brought down on earth by an Angel but it was bestowed upon Prophet (PBUH). Fifty namaz were first enjoined upon the Muslims but this was reduced to five, whereas the reward for namaz remains as if it were still for fifty. This reduction of namaz shows that how great ALLAH’S love for humanity is, few minutes in the whole day is rewarded as continuous worship.

All Muslims performs namaz five times in a day. It is recommended that men should pray namaz in a masjid (mosque) in a congregation of men, although women have the option of offering namaz at home. When Muslim prays they address ALLAH in Arabic language and they use the same words, postures and movements as every other Muslim do. All Muslims unite in the language and ritual of namaz. For performing namaz Muslims faces the direction towards the Holy House of ALLAH, known as the Kaaba. Every Muslim should offer all namaz if he or she wants to enter in Jannah.
